Instructions:
Step 1: Preparation
- Inspect the Rope and Equipment: Before starting, inspect the recovery rope, soft shackles, and recovery points for any signs of wear or damage.
- Assess the Situation: Determine if the stuck vehicle is in a safe and stable position to attempt a recovery. Ensure that the stuck vehicleโs GVWR is less than the maximum GVWR rating of the rope.
Step 2: Choose Appropriate Anchor Points
- Identify Recovery Points: Locate secure recovery points on both vehicles.
- Avoid Improper Recovery Points: Do not use bumpers, tow balls, or non-reinforced areas.
Step 3: Attach Soft Shackles
- Secure the Shackles: Attach the soft shackles to the recovery points on both vehicles. Ensure they are properly oriented and seated correctly.
Step 4: Attach the Recovery Rope
- Connect the Rope: Connect the recovery rope between the two soft shackles on both vehicles. Ensure the rope has some slack.
- Check Rope Alignment: Ensure the recovery rope is straight and all twists in the rope have been removed.
Step 5: Position the Vehicles
- Stuck Vehicle: Ensure the stuck vehicle is in a neutral gear and the driver is ready to assist with gentle acceleration when necessary.
- Recovery Vehicle: Position the recovery vehicle in a straight line with enough distance to create tension on the rope.
Step 6: Initiate the Recovery
- Slowly Tension the Rope: The recovery vehicle should start moving slowly (4mph or less), allowing the rope to stretch and remove slack.
- Controlled Acceleration: Gradually accelerate the recovery vehicle to allow the rope to do its job and pull the stuck vehicle free. Do not accelerate abruptly. All individuals outside of the vehicle(s) should remain at a safe distance to avoid injury.
Step 7: Monitor the Recovery
- Watch for Signs of Progress: As the recovery rope stretches, the stuck vehicle should begin to move. Both drivers need to communicate and adjust acceleration as needed.
- Repeat if Necessary: If the first attempt does not work, stop and inspect the equipment before trying again.
Step 8: Post-Recovery
- Disconnect the Rope and Shackles: Once the stuck vehicle is free, safely disconnect the recovery rope and soft shackles.
- Inspect the Equipment: Check the recovery rope and soft shackles for any damage before storing them.
- Coil the Rope: Properly coil the recovery rope and stow it in the provided storage bag.
Step 9: Final Inspection
- Check Both Vehicles: Inspect both vehicles for any damage or issues caused during recovery. Ensure that all tools and equipment are accounted for and in good condition.
Safety Notes:
Safe Distance:
- Ensure bystanders are at a safe distance during recovery to avoid injury from rope or vehicle.
- Recovery Team Communication: Keep clear communication between drivers and any spotters throughout the process. (Example: One honk for go, two honks for stop)
Safety during setup:
- NEVER STEP OVER ROPE. If rope is not yet attached, step on top of the rope when rigging.
Rope damage:
- To avoid rope damage caused by dirt and pebbles getting inside the rope during recovery, clean the rope with water.
Rope stretch:
- Once a recovery has taken place, the rope will be stretched and will need time to go back to its original shape and length.
WARNING.ย Death or serious injury could result if proper operating and weight load instructions are not followed. Recovery rope is not meant for weight bearing use outside of this kit.
